Migrate Organizations
Move all resources, workloads, and applications from one organization to another.
What is Organization Migration?
Organization migration allows you to:
- Move all applications and deployments
- Transfer all instances and workloads
- Move associated resources to another organization
- Consolidate organizations
- Reorganize your team structure
When to Migrate
Consider migrating when:
- Consolidating teams - Merging two teams into one
- Reorganizing projects - Moving project resources to a different org
- Team restructuring - Reallocating resources based on new structure
- Cleanup - Consolidating multiple small organizations
Start a Migration
Steps
- Go to Organizations page
- Click the Migrate button (arrow icon) on the organization card
- The migration dialog opens
Select Destination Organization
Steps
- In the migration dialog, click the dropdown
- Select the destination organization
- Review the source and destination
- Click Next
Important Notes
- Cannot migrate to the same organization
- Cannot migrate if there are conflicts
- Both organizations must be in the same region (typically)
- Destination must have available capacity
Review Migration Details
Before confirming, you'll see:
- Source Organization - Where resources are coming from
- Destination Organization - Where resources are going to
- What will migrate:
- All applications and deployments
- All instances and workloads
- All associated resources
Confirm Migration
Review Confirmation Screen
The confirmation shows:
- Source and destination organizations
- Summary of what will be migrated
- A warning about the action
Proceed
- Review all details carefully
- Click Confirm or Migrate Organization
- The migration starts
Monitor Migration Progress
During migration:
- A loading indicator shows the progress
- "Do not refresh the page" message displays
- Migration can take several minutes
- You'll see updates as it progresses
After Migration
What Changes
✓ Resources are now in destination organization
✓ All applications continue to function
✓ Deployments remain active
✓ Workloads continue running
✓ Team members with access to destination can now manage resources
What Stays the Same
✓ Resource configurations
✓ Deployment settings
✓ Application code
✓ Secrets and credentials
✓ History and logs
Source Organization
After migration completes:
- Source organization is empty (usually)
- You can delete the source organization if needed
- Or keep it for future use
Best Practices
✓ Test first - Migrate non-critical resources first
✓ Notify team - Inform team members before migrating
✓ Plan timing - Migrate during low-traffic periods
✓ Verify success - Check all resources are working after migration
✓ Update documentation - Update team docs with new organization
✓ Update configurations - Update any configs pointing to old org
Before Migrating
Prepare
- Inform team members
- Back up important data
- Note the current organization structure
- Ensure team has access to destination org
- Plan for any downtime if needed
- Verify destination has adequate capacity
Check
- Verify source organization contents
- Confirm destination organization exists
- Ensure you have permission to migrate
- Check that all workloads are ready to move
During Migration
- ⏳ Monitor the progress
- 🚫 Do not refresh the page
- 🚫 Do not close the dialog
- ⏸️ Be patient (can take several minutes)
After Migration
Verify Success
- Check destination organization
- Verify all resources appear
- Test that applications work
- Confirm deployments are active
- Check that team can access resources
Update Team
- Notify team of migration completion
- Update documentation
- Update any scripts or configs
- Provide new organization details
Cleanup
- Delete source organization if no longer needed
- Or keep it for future use
- Update access permissions as needed
- Archive old organization information
Troubleshooting
Migration failed?
- Check error message for details
- Verify destination organization exists
- Ensure both organizations are valid
- Try again after checking requirements
Resources didn't move?
- Refresh the page to see latest state
- Check destination organization
- Verify migration completed successfully
- Contact support if resources are missing
Can't find migrate button?
- Verify you have Admin permissions
- Check that you're viewing organizations
- Confirm organization is eligible for migration
Migration taking too long?
- Large migrations can take several minutes
- Do not refresh or close the dialog
- Be patient and wait for completion
- Check error message if it times out
Migration Limits
- Only one migration can be in progress at a time
- Cannot migrate to same organization
- Cannot migrate if conflicts exist
- Source must not be empty (typically)
